Compaction is one of the most damaging factors to any sports field.  Healthy turf needs proper drainage, moisture retention, and pore space for root development, gas exchange and oxygen.  Virginia Land Care offers several aeration services to relieve compaction and provide the best soil conditions for root growth.  Severely compacted sites may need to be deep tined to break up hard clay soils.  Other fields may be deep cored to pull up a plug of the existing soil.  Both of these treatments may then be top dressed to incorporate a more desirable material, such as sand, into the soil profile.

A shallow core aerator may be used on lower traffic areas as a more economical treatment.  Other materials can be added to amend the native soil.  The benefits give the field better and longer play, and healthier and better looking turf.  Aeration can be utilized in conjunction with our other Lawn Care and Sports Turf Services.
